Ministry of reconciliation
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
After becoming born again, we have work to do. We have a ministry we have to accomplish. And that is the ministry of reconciliation.
Reconciliation is putting back two bitter enemies to make amends about their relationship. Man became an enemy of God because of sin. Jesus took the punishment and judgement for sin in his body at the cross and gave man the right to be in right relationship with God.
By default every believer ought to be active in the ministry of reconciling others to the Lord. How is that done? By talking to them about the good news of how God sent Jesus to save them from the wrath to come. God is also not imputing man's sin upon him, He is in the business of imputing righteousness, hallelujah.
Hell is real and it exists, but it's not for us humans. It's for the devil and his demons. However those who refuse to receive this free gift of righteousness will have their eternal home in there. The good news here is they don't have to go there, they need to choose whom to believe, a saviour who took away their sin and judgement for sin or they reject him and their sin of rejecting the Lord condemns them to an eternity to hell.
Do you know it's not man's individual sins that will condemn them to an eternity in hell but their rejection of the payment for their sin will? In our preaching we warn men about the consequence of rejecting Jesus. It's not pounding them continuously on how sinful and evil they are that will bring them to receive the Lord since man intuitively knows they aren't perfect. In fact the more I preach to people I ask them whether they are perfect and sinless. So far I haven't met one who says they are sinless and perfect. All tell you they are trying their best. I capitalise on that imperfection and let them aware that even 1% imperfection is enough to condemn them to hell. Therein I point them to the perfection that Christ gives freely. Most of them get it and receive Jesus' perfection and takes away their imperfection.
It's pointing them to a the solution, Christ. It's telling them God is no longer in bad mood, or bear wrath against the sin of man since Jesus paid for it at the cross. It's telling them the saviour granted man reconciliation with God but each of us need to believe, and confess the Lord ship of Jesus for that reconciliation to become effectual.
