Repentance

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Repentance is one of the things that should be fulfilled to break curses. One has to be so humble to repent. It has been taught heavily to repent on behalf of your ancestors for the wrongs they did that do affect us in the present. As harmless as that teaching is, it forgets to note that Ezekiel 18:4 which states that the sinner shall die or bear the consequences of their sin. No more according to God are the effects of sin supposed to fall upon the fourth generation unless the believer is ignorant about such a fact and uses scripture itself to harm themselves.  Now what is true repentance? It's the change of mind accompanied by change of one's action. Repentance also includes Godly sorrow. There's a sorrow that leads to death, that's worldly ...

Breaking free of curses

Galatians 3:13-14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. We have covered extensively about curses in the past weeks but how do we break free? It's not okay to be empowered with the knowledge of what's not okay, it's good to know how to sort it right and the new testament believer is fully equipped with such powere to do so. I remember writing previously that why would God reveal that the devil is behind disease, miscarriages, family breakdowns if the children of Israel were not yet mature to comprehend such information in their hearts which were not spiritually developed? They were immature then. To us we are able to comprehend the full scope because we have the Holy Spirit to give us such understanding. No wonder the Bible says The ...

How do curses manifest?

Deuteronomy 28:15-ff But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and cursed [shalt] thou [be] in the field. Cursed [shall be] thy basket and thy store. It's important to clearly identify regular patterns and the root causes of them. We may or may not know the cause but it's important to know that there's a problem, a recurrent pattern etc. Things don't just happen. Life is more spiritual than you think. Curses manifest in some of these ways as Deut 28:15ff lists them; poverty, unproductiveness, defeat, failure, family breakdowns etc. It's also common for some people to fall on accidents every now and then, have miscarriages, repeated undiagnosable illnesses, financial insufficiency etc.  One might think it's their lack of this or lack ...

Heads not tails

Deuteronomy 28:13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do [them]: God commands a blessing of being the heads and not the tails. The head as the name sounds represents someone who is a leader, one with vision, direction, influence, someone in charge, who speaks out, sensitive to the voice of God and a decision maker.  A tail on the other hand is the very opposite of the head. It describes a person being lead, without vision,  direction, influence, someone not in charge, someone who doesn't speak out, awaiting on other people's opinions on a matter and one who is not the one who makes decisions concerning even those they have to make themselves. Such people give up on life and allow circumstances take the lead of their lives instead of them taking the lead. They become victims and not vic...

Victory

Deuteronomy 28:7 The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. Victory is the potion of the believer. It's a blessing from God. You have not been created to be defeated, weak or helpless. You are more than a conqueror because Jesus already conquered the enemy, ours is to come and occupy the won territory. Whoever touches you touches God. When the bible talks of touch not  the anointed ones of God. You are anointed. Your blessed. No weapon formed against you shall prosper.  You may have enemies of lack of tuition, lack of food, no marriage partner etc. That enemy won't last. You will win. In fact, you have already won. We simply look back to that victory and appropriate them in our situation. You and God are the majority. In fact the enemy is no match compared to the One who is on your side. That was the story of David, he was small compared to Goliath but he...

Prosperity

Deuteronomy 28:5, 8 Blessed [shall be] thy basket and thy store. The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Gods blessings manifest through prosperity of His people. To be prosperous is to be abundantly supplied with all you need. There's a place in the ministry whereby you may not have all the money you need to do something that God requires you to do but when the instruction comes you will definitely get the resources to fulfill what God intends you to do. It's commonly said that where God commands, He provides. We see it in many Bible verses.  When Noah had to build the ark, God provided all he needed. When Moses wanted to build the Tabernacle, God provided by the people generously giving to the point when he commanded them to stop. When David desired to build the temple, God provided through the people giving and through David too givi...

Fruitfulness

Deuteronomy 28:4 Blessed [shall be] the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessings manifest too in whatever we own. When you see your flocks, stocks in business multiply, it means there's a blessing working in your life. There are many who try all they can but in vain when they do something and nothing happens. Don't take it for granted if yours are increasing year in year out and you are surviving on it year in year out. God is surely at work.  Never take lightly the fact that you eat everyday, drink everyday and your earnings are increasing every year. If the opposite is true year in year out in a recurrent pattern, then something ain't right. You may be dealing with a curse. Human nature sometimes loves to focus on what they don't have and forget to count their blessings which they already have. No wonder many lust for more which they shouldn't. Bishop Gerald always...

How do blessings look like?

Deuteronomy 28:3 Blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the field.  We talk of the blessings but how do they look like? What are the things that show that someone has blessings? The Bible lists them in Deuteronomy 28;1-14.  Blessed everywhere whether in the city or in the village. What an awesome thing to be with a blessing wherever you may go. The hand of God being upon you in all places. Do not take it lightly when you are accepted wherever you go and prosper especially in new environments. There are some who just go into a place and they are simply rejected by all they meet even without having talked to them before.  Things should go well with us not tragedies or evils. The report by all who relate with us should be a good one otherwise you will not like it if you can't even go back to the very places you were part of when everyone doesn't want you around.  It was Bishop Benson Idhahosa who said you cannot be a lizard in Africa and...

Unscriptural covenants

Exodus 23:32 Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. From the scripture above, the children of isreal were commanded not to enter into covenants with the nations they were to find in the promised land they were about to enter in. According to the scripture above, there covenants are with man and also with God or gods.  Covenants have a binding effect on those who are engaged in them. We have heard many enter into covenants with a promise of riches and other things from yet it results in disaster. They want good at the end of the day but I don't think they are prepared to face the consequences. The devil doesn't give anything for free. Accompanied with what he gives are endless troubles and sorrow. It's selfish for one to enter into such covenants with a care of how it will affect the people they are connected to. There is a popular story in Uganda of a man who sacrificed his son for riches. Now the ghost of the child came haunting the rich man to wake up...

Soulish prayers or utterances

James 3:13-15 Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish. Many believers make confessions in prayer not based on the word but according to what they feel at a time. Their feelings say something while the spirit man says another. In a way they confess upon themselves curses that affect their destinies.  In other cases such prayers are not made by you but by those who self proclaim as if they know what is best for you. These can be parents, friends, or even intercessors for that matter. Then there are some who not only want to tell you what God is saying, but influence every decision you intend to come up with. In a way they order your life based on their own way or by experience in the name of protecting you from making mist...

Satan's agents

Numbers 22:4-6 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all [that are] round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor [was] king of the Moabites at that time. He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which [is] by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me: Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they [are] too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, [that] we may smite them, and [that] I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest [is] blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.  There's another way through which curses come onto people, through Satan's agents call them witch doctors. They are so good at it that they do their services when hired by one party against another they wi...

Christ is risen

1 Corinthians 15:14 And if Christ be not risen, then [is] our preaching vain, and your faith [is] also vain. Our faith is alive on the fact that Christ is risen from the dead. All other religions, their leaders are still dead. So what is so special about the resurrection? Let's look at important truths about Christ's death, burial and resurrection. We were reconciled to God. Reconciliation is simply mending a relationship that was broken. God and man are no longer apart because sin the barrier to our fellowship was removed and nailed to the cross.  We were redeemed. Redemption is buying back that which was lost. Redemption normally was used in buying back slaves from a slave market, purchasing goods which were originally yours but we're lost etc. Man was held captive by the devil after Adam committed sin and plunged the entire human race under sin and dominion of the devil. Jesus put on flesh and paid the price for our redemption, that is dying on our behalf and rescuing us...

Self imposed curses

Genesis 27:11-13 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother [is] a hairy man, and I [am] a smooth man: My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing. And his mother said unto him, Upon me [be] thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me [them]. Everyday majority of people find themselves in very tight situations and end up cursing themselves through the words they pronounce on themselves which gives the enemy the legal right to come and do havoc in their lives. Words like, " I am a failure, I cannot make it, I am good for nothing, everyone hates me, I am dead, No one will ever marry me," etc.  Now if they say them jokingly in conversations they may not take effect because as the Bible says as a man believes in his heart so is he. Some people never believe what they say that is why some pronouncements never take root but there are those who from deep in their subco...

Authority figures in our lives

Genesis 9:24-27 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed [be] Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed [be] the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God has divinely placed certain people over our lives whose words of blessings or curses can either make you a success or a failure.  One such person is your biological father. A curse from a father to a child has tremendous effect in the destiny of the child. Noah pronounced a curse on his grand son Canaan because his son Ham saw his nakedness after he had fallen drunk. In Israel even your grand son is your son according to the genealogies in the Bible for example the Bible says Jesus was the son of David as well as a son of Abraham. Isaac before his death pronounced a blessing on Jacob as well as Esau and that's how they tu...

Men of God

Matthew 21:19-22 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw [it], they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this [which is done] to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Men of God too have ability not only to bless but also curse. But their curses don't just come without cause, they are for a reason.  Jesus cursed a fig tree for having no fruit and it dried up immediately. Likewise we can curse. I remember cursing many bars in some areas and pronounced that such spaces would in turn be used for goo...

Trust in man

Jeremiah 17:5-8 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed [be] the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, [in] a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed [is] the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and [that] spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. There is a curse for those that trust in man or their own strength to achieve certain things. God wants us to depend on Him and His grace for daily Christian living. If you depend on something else besides Him, there's a certain way you won't prosper.  Man or our flesh has limits. In fact the bible says those who walk according to the flesh ...

Injustice to the weak and helpless

Deuteronomy 27:17-19 'Cursed [is] the one who moves his neighbor's landmark.' "And all the people shall say, 'Amen!' 'Cursed [is] the one who makes the blind to wander off the road.' "And all the people shall say, 'Amen!' 'Cursed [is] the one who perverts the justice due the stranger, the fatherless, and widow.' "And all the people shall say, 'Amen!' People usually don't know what they are doing when they perform injustice to the weak and helpless people in society. They attract curses upon themselves and the their families. These include the widows, orphans, the lame, blind etc.  We hear many grab property belonging to orphans after the death of their parents. This is disastrous. Others simply come and snatch land from others because they use force or armed men. This opens them up to curses.  Believe God to get what is rightfully yours. Your faith won't shield you from unjust behaviour.  A story is told by Dere...

Unnatural Sex

Deuteronomy 27:20-22 Cursed [be] he that lieth with his father's wife; because he uncovereth his father's skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed [be] he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen. Cursed [be] he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen. Curses are released to those who practice things like sodomy, bestiality, incest etc. The enemy has ensured that people have a soft spot for these acts by using celebrity figures who come out in the open to show affection to the same sex. The irony will be that some kind of thinking like this will start going through people's minds, "since even that big name is doing it, who are you not to?" People have idolised celebrities by dressing, lifestyle, and their lines of thought.  We ought to be careful about autobiographies of these big name stars. They advance certain ways of thinking and doing thin...

Honouring parents

Deuteronomy 27:16 (NLT) 'Cursed is anyone who dishonors father or mother.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'  The Bible commands and doesn't suggest that we should honour parents. This is the only commandment with a promise of things going well with you.  Dishonoring them brings a curse on you. There are many ways people dishonour parents. One of them is by not supporting them financially whether they are well off or not. You see sometimes they are even richer than you by the time you start working but give to them because the Bible commands so.  Honouring them doesn't mean you have to do everything they tell you to if it leads you away from God's Word. Obedience is different from submission. You can refuse to do what is contrary to what you believe and yet remain in a posture of submissiveness within and without.  It's honouring for a couple to receive the parents blessings before marriage if they are still alive. If one brings pseudo parents, they...

Flee idolatry

Deuteronomy 27:11-15 And Moses charged the people the same day, saying, These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin: And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice, Cursed [be] the man that maketh [any] graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth [it] in [a] secret [place]. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen. In our scripture above, Moses divided the children of Israel into two. One group was on mount Ebal while another on mount Gerizim. One side pronounced curses  another blessings on Israel in the land they had just entered in for disobedience or obedience respectively. As a man of God, one my roles is to warn men about the dangers of some actions. It's one thin...

Sources of curses

Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. One of the answers to this question to sources of curses is God himself. Many times God pronounced curses on people in the old testament. In the new testament however,  we see Jesus operating in the will of God by praying for people to be healed, in other words he judged sickness and diseases by praying for people to recover. Was He the same God who brought the sickness? God cannot be one who brings sickness at the same time takes it away. There's no sickness in heaven. It means Jesus would be in opposition to God's will by removing sickness from people! In the same way it would be wrong to go to hospital to get medical attention if God brought the sickness and it's His will for you to be sick. Is God then Schizophrenic? He's not because He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Oral Roberts brought a good quote by saying God is...

Obedience causes blessings

Genesis 22:15-19 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son]: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba. In proverbs 26:2, a curse has a cause. But also is a blessing. How does the blessing come into a person's life, by obedience. A curse too comes through disobedience.  Abraham was blessed of God because he didn't hesitate to offer Isaac. There was power in the words the angel spoke which affected the future of Abraham. Jacob too was ...

Blessings and curses II

Genesis 22:15-17 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son]: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; Both blessings and curses are passed on through words. These are not just ordinary words but supernatural words with power behind them. This power is either from God or the devil.  These blessings or curses continue in someone's life and family for generations. There are frustrations which one can experience everytime a door of success is about to happen in their life. This may not have been them alone but also a number of people in their family had the same. Sometimes it's after you have grown a little older, that you start seeking deeper about y...

Blessings and curses

Proverbs 26:2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.  A blessing is the divine enablement to increase while a curse is the divine enablement to fail. Both are transmitted through words whether spoken or written. Some people don't believe curses do exist but they are sincerely wrong. All through the Bible there are curses pronounced on people for one reason or the other. Bible says a curse causes cannot stand. Which means when someone pronounces a curse on you yet you haven't done anything wrong to them, it cannot take effect. In the same vein the Bible says there is no divination against Israel. This verse when drawn in context was when the diviner Balaam was hired to curse the children of Israel by king Balack when they where about to pass through his territory. Instead of cursing, Balaam ended up blessing them, why? Because they had done nothing wrong to him. Don't think you will live carelessly, hurting people here, tha...

The tongue

James 3:5-6 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. We have a small member of our bodies called the tongue which has ability to define the course of our lives and that is the tongue. With it one can speak himself or others happy, sad or glad. With it one can make or break relationships. With it one can be judged by what they think or feel. Wherever the mind goes, and so is the tongue and so are the actions. If we speak and don't act in direction of it then we are hypocrites and liars. A hypocrite is one who is likened to an actor on stage. They can put a clone on their faces to look like a beast and yet they aren't beasts. It's simply acted out.  Why don't we have our prayers answered? It is because our wor...

Perception

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart [is] not with thee. The way we perceive things affects our reception of anything. If your way of perceiving the things of God is right, you will act rightly towards ministry, God's people and his ministers. The church has been painted poorly and men of God in particular by the media. This has affected the way people relate to the things of God. Believers ought to know that the church is not run on the opinions of men but the Word of God.   Similarly when you hear words of darkness, it is darkness that will fill the heart, and that will dominate your perception.  Perception is the way we think about something intuitively. It's our thought life about a matter. People of the melancholic personality are prone to have a tendency to be able to think deeper about things before they act.  The things which have happened before in the past also affect the way we think abou...

Gates

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life. A gate is simply that which gives access. Our body has gates into which the heart receives information.  The heart of a human being is the composed of the soul and the spirit. It's a place where one's true being lies. The body is simply a shell or container of the heart. The seat of God or the enemy is the heart.  Whoever then has the greatest influence over the heart of man, controls the actions of the man. Any activity we see is influenced by God, the devil or man, to touch a heart of somebody for good or for bad.  Everything man does begins from the heart. Love, faith, trust, modesty, chastity, cruelty, hatred, pride, arrogance, sin, strife, envy, jealousy, etc start from the heart. No wonder, the Bible says, blessed is he with a pure heart, he shall see God. This means, only those with a pure heart can see God, (Matthew 5:8). Also, “Who shall ascend the Holy Mountain of God?” (Psa...

Kinds of tongues and their interpretation

1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:  The word tongue simply means language. There are known and unknown languages. By known I mean those which are understood by men like English, Swahili etc. Unknown are those not understood by men or are tongues of angels. The speaker of them doesn't understand what they are but they speak out by Faith. Now it also means that the tongue maybe unknown to the speaker yet it's known by some in the congregation.  Now there is a general gift given to every believer to speak in tongues but this one is specially given to someone by the Holy Spirit to be able to speak in various kinds of tongues.  The reason we speak in tongues is to edify ourselves spiritually. While the reason for interpretation of tongues is to edify the congregation. Unless when everyone in the meeting is able to speak in ...

Miracles Vs Process

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Miracles are instantaneous works that God does while healings are gradual, process by process. Some Christians don't want process but God too works through process. Someone out of the blue making a lame man to walk is a miracle. While when one is prayed for and they get to see themselves get better overtime is a healing. It's also like accumulating wealth vs living on miraculous supply day by day. Jesus multiplied fish and bread, that's a miracle, but working with ones hands to supply ones needs is a process. It's God supplying the opportunity, wisdom, knowledge and power to endure the process of making money while in other cases, when one is hungry and they get a call to come get money, that's a miracle. God supplied miraculously to Elijah by the raven bringing meat ...
