Honouring parents

Deuteronomy 27:16 (NLT) 'Cursed is anyone who dishonors father or mother.' And all the people will reply, 'Amen.'

The Bible commands and doesn't suggest that we should honour parents. This is the only commandment with a promise of things going well with you.

Dishonoring them brings a curse on you. There are many ways people dishonour parents. One of them is by not supporting them financially whether they are well off or not. You see sometimes they are even richer than you by the time you start working but give to them because the Bible commands so.

Honouring them doesn't mean you have to do everything they tell you to if it leads you away from God's Word. Obedience is different from submission. You can refuse to do what is contrary to what you believe and yet remain in a posture of submissiveness within and without.

It's honouring for a couple to receive the parents blessings before marriage if they are still alive. If one brings pseudo parents, they will experience many problems not a few in their marriage. It's good therefore to get their consent before two people enter such a union. If then you happen to be cohabiting you're sinning both against God and against man. Better do things right. Set a good foundation. Sometimes people don't believe this and start justifying wrong doing by pointing out to people who are successful by this world's standards yet they are in disobedience to God.  Such an attitude isn't right at all. No wonder some die prematurely, some face difficulty in child bearing etc. This is because they open a door to the devil and he always brings all trouble to them. It's always safe to be in God's Word.

If you ever had issues with your parents go sort them today and things will work well in your life.
