Sources of curses
Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
One of the answers to this question to sources of curses is God himself. Many times God pronounced curses on people in the old testament. In the new testament however, we see Jesus operating in the will of God by praying for people to be healed, in other words he judged sickness and diseases by praying for people to recover. Was He the same God who brought the sickness? God cannot be one who brings sickness at the same time takes it away. There's no sickness in heaven. It means Jesus would be in opposition to God's will by removing sickness from people! In the same way it would be wrong to go to hospital to get medical attention if God brought the sickness and it's His will for you to be sick. Is God then Schizophrenic? He's not because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Oral Roberts brought a good quote by saying God is a good God and the devil is a bad devil. It means even when the Bible wrote explicitly that it's God who brought curses on people, in light of the new testament, since God is one, it was actually the devil himself.
I need to explain that further. Why would God bring to light the existence of the devil being at work in the old testament if they had no spiritual maturity to understand His workings nor the power to cause him to leave? When God knew it was useless to reveal such information, He owned up the good and the bad.
Some people have said that God allowed the sickness come on the people or permitted it to come on them because He is sovereign. Such an interpretation is disastrous. Can you allow fire to be poured on your baby or to be kidnapped in the name of humbling them or teaching them a lesson? Noway you come to their rescue. Obviously you warn them of the consequences but if they ever go against your warnings, we can't say you burnt them, they burnt themselves.
So people got themselves in trouble for not heeding to God's warnings. They chose the way of death and not life. They chose against God inspite of being warned. Deuteronomy 28 lists the blessings and curses in detail for obeying and disobeying God's laws. The curses were more than the blessings!
Moses later adds punishments for breaking God's laws. Why would a good Lord out punishments for law breakers? The punishments that God pronounced were so severe to preserve them a posterity otherwise all would be destroyed for heeding to the devil. Since they couldn't understand how to resist the devil, they could sense that killing someone meant you would be stoned also, so they would resist the devil's temptation to kill. It's good for law and order to be in our societies. If it's not so, people would just take other people's lives with impunity. If severe punishments were not imposed, a Holy race that would eventually bring about the birth of Jesus would not have been preserved. Sometimes we cannot wait for everyone to mature before they understand why looking in all directions is important before crossing the road, just punish them for not doing so otherwise they will die an untimely death for not being careful while crossing. God explained the full picture of what's happening in the spiritual realm by the coming of Jesus, but it took him 4000 years to do so since the days of Adam. With God, application and obedience precedes explanation. You cannot understand fully what God is up to from the word go otherwise it will overwhelm you. He reveals His will a little here and a little there.
Although it's a little complicated to understand the kind of explanation written here, it's good to reason that way otherwise if you don't, you will simply wait for God's will to happen instead of moving to cause it to happen. You will embrace the wrongs in your life as God ordained and that will just destroy you. Do you know someone can simply just sit there waiting for God to take away their sickness in stead of them rebuking the devil and he flees?
Dear reader, God has placed laws and principles in the spiritual and natural realm. Obeying them works for our good. Disobeying them works against us. Simply trust and obey. If you fly out of a plane you will definitely be pulled down by gravity. Gravity wouldn't pause to bring you down safely because it's a law. The entire universe would self destruct if that is so. Better move in line with God's law and you will be safe that way.
