Flee idolatry
Deuteronomy 27:11-15 And Moses charged the people the same day, saying, These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin: And these shall stand upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice, Cursed [be] the man that maketh [any] graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth [it] in [a] secret [place]. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.
In our scripture above, Moses divided the children of Israel into two. One group was on mount Ebal while another on mount Gerizim. One side pronounced curses another blessings on Israel in the land they had just entered in for disobedience or obedience respectively.
As a man of God, one my roles is to warn men about the dangers of some actions. It's one thing to tell men to simply fall in love with God, but it's another to tell them the specifics of what it means to love God. Bishop Gerald Mwebe always tells us that Christians genuinely love God but they do error not because they don't love Him but because of ignorance. It's good to receive some salt here and there and not just mince words.
The Bible is very clear both in the new and old testament what we ought to do and what we ought not to do. It's to our advantage that we align our lives to what God says rather than walk in ignorance.
Christians are capable of what is called synchritism. On Sunday they worship God but on Monday to Saturday they worship for other gods. It's not good to be wishy washy about this. They simply have to flee.
An idol is simply that thing which takes the place of God. Now there are physical idols where men literally bow down to, and there are others which consume your time and resources.
God is a jealous God. He desires you give Him your all, spirit, soul and body in surrender. Worship him fully. Don't have one leg in Him and another in small gods. The irony is that some Christians simply want to show "love" by mingling with those who do idol worship even before their eyes. Whatever they assume to be love isn't love at all. Bible says better are the wounds of an enemy than the kisses of a friend. You do well to tell someone who is the wrong, it means you love them more than another who simply showers them praises. You cannot afford to go to things like twin dedication where all sorts of foul language is used or called "okwalula abalongo" in Luganda, or burning the disease ritual, "okwabya olumbe." Now these are some but there may be others I know not in other tribes. I wonder what Christians do think about the gravity of such an act. Now some don't go but contribute towards the functions. That too is a point of contact which will usher in curses.
Some have made worship of their money, celebrities, their children (in case they have had difficulty getting one, the day they get one, they literally worship it). Some idolise their tribes, political parties, jobs, positions in society, leaders, their spouses etc, the list is endless.
It's good to esteem that which the Bible tells us to esteem. Esteem men of God instead, esteem the things of God highly. Esteem means put a high value on the things of God and little value for other things. Be vibrant when it comes to God's things. Post men of God everywhere, celebrate their birthdays etc. Man is a creature of worship, you either worship the right thing or the wrong thing. There's no middle ground. Some actually worship themselves. They reach a point where literally whatever they touch turns to gold, I mean they are very very successful in the things they get to do and accomplish in this life that they start to believe in their own script. They become proud. They start to believe so much in what they say or do in that when you oppose it they are surprised, taken aback and express so much anger. Some by virtue of their success want to dominate everything including matters of the church! No way! It's good to stay humble when you achieve some level of success and never allow it to enter your head. In fact the number one way to keep humble is to be generous with your time, money and gifts. Freely given, freely give.
Don't be deceived to think your wealth or success or a lack of it came or will come through your ancestors and should be kept by appeasing them through sacrificing or doing certain rituals, Christ is just enough. If you want to go down fast, idolise, if you want God to lift you continually, worship God only.
