What would you be remembered for II?
Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
At the end of your life, how would like to be remembered for? There's a lot we remember about our perfect example Jesus Christ.
Jesus lived a life of sacrifice, by dying for us sinners. Choose to be remembered for having laid down your life for others. Jesus died for the common good of all. He was not selfish. He calls on us to be living sacrifices, Romans 12:1. We are in the last days whereby men are lovers of themselves. You find for example a parent living a luxurious life and yet their children aren't in school. They forget that their parents too never had a lot but at least sacrificed to ensure that they get the basics of life. We see people divorce, strive, take other people's property, etc. because they are selfish and only think about themselves. Christians cannot sacrifice their comfort to serve God. They give excuses for being busy. They think Jesus will understand their situation. I don't think He will. If He laid down His life, we too can. It's not too much to ask of us to do the same thing.
Jesus had a relationship with his Father. How is your relationship with your spiritual father? What kind of son are you? A beloved son, a prodigal son, a bastard, rebellious, or an elder son? Each of those is a choice you can choose today. Choose to be your father's beloved. A beloved son hears his father's instructions and does them. He is always in the presence of his father desiring to hear from him. He is confident that he is pleasing to his father not because of what he does but because of his position with him. Never be a prodigal. Prodigal sons are wasteful sons. They waste life, opportunities, relationships, and family relationships because they can't attach value to them. They just leave the ministry after years of investment in them. They are hungry for gain. They want their father dead so that they can take charge of the ministry he leads. Don't be prodigal. Bastard sons cannot endure correction. They are undisciplined. They do what they want. They don't want to come under authority. Never be a bastard son. Elder sons stay with their father. They never leave. They are always obedient. Never annoy the father and are hardworking. Desire to take on elder son's traits.
Jesus took good care of his mother, he being the eldest son. It is said at the time of Jesus' death, Joseph was no longer alive. So by default, Jesus assumed responsibility to take care of his mother. When the bible says to honour your father and mother, it means to give them the respect that is due to them. It also means giving the material and financial aid they need because they are now old and cannot afford them. Even when they can afford, simply obey the command by giving them. At the cross, Jesus said, "Woman, behold your son[John], and John behold your mother." This meant he left her in the care of John. This shows someone responsible. Leave this world and be known for having been a responsible person over yours. For the singles, be prepared to take care of your spouse. Every child you will bring into this world is your responsibility. Relationships are not simply about emotions, use your mind too. Having one wife like the bible advises you to honour God and have a family you can ably take care of. I have seen children suffer because their father had many wives. The father couldn't take care of them. This is not pleasing to God.
Finally, Jesus had a consistent prayer and fasting life. He did not wish that the will of God would simply come to pass, no. He prayed about it. Be known as a spiritual man and woman who constantly devotes time to praying and fasting. Your communion with God is the most important thing you can ever have in this world. Why neglect it for life's fleeting pleasures. Devote time on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to pray and fast. Life is spiritual, and you ought to be sensitive to spiritual things more than ever before.
