The armour of God

Ephesians 6:13-17 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

In the spiritual warfare we are in, we need to have ourselves dressed up spiritually to combat the forces of evil. The Bible says we should dress up with God's armour in Ephesians 6:13-17. It is likened to the armour that Roman soldiers used to put on in Paul's day. As we read, you should notice that part of the armour is used by the soldier to defend himself, while the rest is used to attack.

What is this armour? The girdle of truth, the shield representing faith, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes for the preparation for the gospel of peace, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. Do you realise that the Bible uses words carefully? It mentions God's armour and not the devil's armour, or the world's armour or your armour. Now you and I cannot be wiser than God. The world and sometimes religion have deceived us into thinking that you cannot walk in truth all the time, that you are a sinner, that you are God's enemy, that you cannot be saved while you are still alive and that Spiritual things are not real, etc. These are exactly contrary to the armour God has stated, yet it is what tradition or popular thinking has caused us to believe, forming strongholds in our minds. It has reached a point when you fail to notice who a real Christian is because they are so worldly, weak, poor, and defeated every time. I know Christians can walk in victory always if they use God's armour in the evil day.

What is the evil day that the Bible warns us of? It's that day in anyone's life when, as some term it when all hell breaks loose and the situation looks like swallowing you up alive. It's a day like no other which threatens your livelihood, business, family, etc. If it hasn't happened yet, if you are Christian, it's coming. Jesus had his fair share of trials and evil days, both human and satan orchestrated, but He overcame every time. We too should prepare to face ours. Now, don't get me wrong, we don't invite these evil days, nor do we pray for them to happen to accomplish a divine cause or to get a spiritual lesson out of them, but they are definitely coming. Any sound army doesn't prepare on the day of battle. It anticipates battle and trains beforehand. It is ever ready. Soldiers are ever dressed for action and armoured. Armies don't take the calm days easily. To them, they think of any likelihood of an attack.

On the other hand, some Christians wait to fall sick in order to learn how to pray, learn about divine healing. Some wait to fall into financial hardships to learn about saving, tithing and giving. There are many applications you can relate to.

All in all, have the readiness to fight by keeping yourself sharpened and equipped for battle.
