El Elyon

Genesis 14:18-22 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he [was] the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed [be] Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

El Elyon means God The Most High. The first mention of this title for God was in Genesis 14 when Abram had rescued his nephew Lot in the battle of the Kings by Melchizedek. He offered tithes to Melchizedek, who was the priest of the most High God.

There are many gods in this world and idols that men have put up for themselves but God is the Most High of them all. Men have reached a point of idolising their families, wealth, or great accomplishments but all those are nothing in comparison to the LORD.

Nebuchadnezzar also acknowledged that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had the most High God who delivered them from the fiery furnace because they refused to bow to the golden image he had made.

That is the temptation the enemy still brings to the sons of men today. Men idolising money or strength instead of God. We need to learn from Abram and the three Hebrew friends who depended on the Most High for deliverance and not the material or fleshly elements of this world.

God's delight is when we entirely depend on Him and He comes through for us so that all the glory goes back to Him.

Daniel 3:26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, [and] spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come [hither]. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
