Jehovah Tsidkenu
Jeremiah 23:5-6 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Tsidkenu means righteousness. Jehovah Tsidkenu thus means the LORD our Righteousness.
Jeremiah 23 is usually used to admonish pastors in their shepherdorial work, but to take it in context, it is a messianic chapter where Jeremiah was prophesying a day when men would no longer judge themselves righteous because of what they have done or not done, but because Christ has been made their righteousness.
Somehow, people think those who preach the grace of God and the righteousness of God are only basing their teachings on the New Testament, yet these truths were also prophesied, implied or foreshadowed in the Old Testament, not once but many times, as St Augustine famously said that "The New Testament is in the Old concealed; the Old Testament is in the New revealed."
Who is our righteousness according to the New Testament in the famous scripture of 2 Corinthians 5:21? Jesus Christ. This is the day we are in. It should also tell you why Paul said none shall be justified by doing what the law says, but only those who believe in Jesus Christ.
Child of God, rest in the truth that you are righteous because of Jesus Christ, hallelujah!
