Prayer of Jabez I
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
People pray in every way and in all styles. There's nothing as universal as prayer. In fact many use it as an evangelism tool to get inroads to hard hearted. You knock on someone's door and instead of asking to preach to them, you ask to pray for them, they will willingly allow you to go ahead. But the moment they allow you, you give them a brief sermon, lead them to Christ and then pray.
You need to take off time to pray. Many things are at stake and it takes prayer to change them. The Bible speaks of men that prayed and got results, Jabez is one of them. Out of only two verses, we get to hear of Jabez of whom many sermons have been said.
Born in sorrow, pain and trouble and problems, he was named after the same and yet he became more honourable than all because of prayer. Everytime he was called, he was called after trouble, problems, paim and sorrow. But prayer mixed with faith works powerful results. Am caused to believe that when he was of age he rejected the past to rule him or become his identity and eventually made a prayer that changed everything. There's something profound there, choosing the opposite of your prevailing circumstances. He didn't simply conform to the status quo but he challenged it.
What have you allowed to take precedence? We always get what we allow. Believe that God can change your destiny today when you pray.
Amen
