Keys to fulfilling God's will
Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
There are several nuggets to learn from this potion of scripture as we find or fulfill the call of Gordon our lives. Firstly, we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Who are those? The saints that went before us and are now in paradise. They are up there cheering us on and encouraging us to move on and not give up. It's key to have that at the back of our minds in order not to faint in that day of adversity. Any runner of a race needs support from those in the stands. Their cheers enable him stride forward. The last thing he ought not to do is to stand and argue with those who oppose him or pull him down. That will simply withdraw all his energy.
Any good runner needs to focus on his race and his track. His success is not hinged on how many arguments he has won because he can win an argument and yet lose the war.
However on the other hand you cannot avoid arguments and fighting the opposition. Nehemiah faced a lot of opposition as he was building the wall. He was mocked and ridiculed but he kept at it. What amuses me that he armed his men with weapons so that they were building and fighting at the same time.
Anything worthwhile you will do in the kingdom will require some kind of fighting for you to ensure that your work progresses. There are battles with religious men that Jesus had to make. You would think they would be the first to welcome Him but they didn't. He couldn't even pick a disciple from among them! He got help from the least expected. David too faced opposition from the very king he served, Saul. He employed vagabonds and men who weren't anything in society at the time to be part of his army! That's ministry for you. God uses the least expected and not the choicest of men we would normally choose. Sometimes the choicest of men are competent but aren't available and yet God needs available men to execute his work.
