Exemplary givers

2 Corinthians 8:1-4 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. For to [their] power, I bear record, yea, and beyond [their] power [they were] willing of themselves; Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and [take upon us] the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

Paul talks about the people of Macedonia who were great examples to others in giving. They also had their own needs since they were in dire poverty and yet they gave. In fact they not only gave but begged Paul to do so. Paul testified of them to the Corinthian believers to challenge them to do the same. There are good challenges to throw out to a congregation which is poor at giving by pointing to them to others who are worse off than them and yet abound in giving.

The Bible notes that it's better to suffer for doing good than for doing evil, 1 Pet 3:17. Choose to be identified as an example of those who give cheerfully among the brethren. That's a nice report to carry.

Tabitha was known for her giving and that was one of the reasons why Peter raised her from the dead, Acts 9:36. The centurion mentioned in the gospels was known for building the synagogue and for that reason Jesus healed his servant, Luke 7:5. These are called miracles obtained not by grace but by merit or because of the person's good deeds. Take advantage of both.

There are some promotions, opportunities, open doors which will come to you because of your generosity. The queen of Sheba got an opportunity to meet King Solomon because she carried a lot of gifts for him. Her gifts not natural talents but tangible gifts like spices which she brought in plenty gave her access to the king, Chronicles 9:9. Am sure it wasn't easy to meet the king. But she bypassed protocol and everyone on the waiting list because of her giving.

From today choose to be exemplary and a leader in the area of giving.
