Fear God

Luke 18:2, 8 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man. I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Fearing God is not being afraid or of the Lord but to have reverence for him. Reverence is respect. This should be our attitude when handling the things we are stewarding over like money, wealth, gifts and talents. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, those who are out there endeavouring to multiply their gifts and to those who aren't trying, even the little that they think they have, they get to lose it.

It's important to know that we aren't indispensable. We are privileged to be used of God. Anytime we feel indispensable, pride sets in and the next thing is a fall. There are many in the Bible who suffered terrible falls because they were taken up with pride.

Jesus is both saviour and Lord. At the same time He is a friend, a brother, present help, the lover of our souls etc. If we don't have a healthy fear of Him, we will think we are His equal, and end up worshipping ourselves, our accomplishments, our abilities, our self worth, our self importance, our self esteem instead of Him. To explain it simply, the mere fact that He made us who we are is enough to show you that He is Great and deserves our reverence.

Those who lack a healthy fear of God do all kinds of things in the presence of God. Now some believers don't know that when you are preaching you can see who is doing what because you are seeing everyone. If you happen to move in the aisle of the church, you can see folks on social media, in their gallery watching photos, instead of making notes! I wonder how people can chew bubble gum or even have eats while church is happening and remain concentrating! I wonder how people who come late for church services think about God or those who don't pay tithes. I wonder how those who skip church services think or even forget important leadership related meetings which they have to attend yet they have calendars on their phones to set reminders! Then there are some who do not want to do anything unless they are begged or paid, do such men value what they have been given or they are trading their gift? Then there are some who don't come to church because of transport, you wonder whether they don't have legs to walk or even skip a meal to save up some money for transport for Sunday! Then there are some who talk talk and talk as the service goes on. Some sit in church or talk to their pastor or leaders with their caps or hoods on, some lack courtesy to remove their shades! How do you steal your boss' money, government money, church money or even someone else's money? Don't you fear God? The list is endless.

Are men becoming cold? Will Jesus find any faith when He comes back? Do men fear God or they think He is their equal, buddy or something they have crafted in their minds. The earlier we acknowledge that God is God, the healthier our relationship with Him and others will be. The fear of God will bring some level of more seriousness and help us do what we have to do in the right way.
