Greed

Ephesians 4:17-19 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Greed is the excessive desire to gain material possessions. It characterizes someone who clings tight to what they own, so desirous for what they do not have and unduly withhold back from giving freely.

Greed caused Gehazi to run after Naaman to ask him for gold which Elisha had refused. When he returned to the man of God, he lied about where he had been. The result was a curse and he become leprous. The end of greedy men isn't always good. Ananias and Sapphira sold a piece of land and greed caused them to lie about the amount at which they sold the land. Greed, stealing and lying are like sisters. Someone who's lying is not very far from being a thief, greedy and a greedy person is not far from stealing or lying. One who steals is greedy and lies all the time.

In marriages, greed makes spouses to hide or lie about the amounts they earn or even the properties they have. Some do not know the bank accounts of their spouses, mobile money pins, where they keep land titles etc. Some even lie during courtship about the children they may have had in past relationships for fear that they would be chucked. This is totally selfish. Greed is selfish! I am yet to see a thriving couple which acts that way. Does it hurt to declare whether you have earned anything that day or not? Lying would only break trust later if found out. In the case of death, the other spouse and children suffer for having not known of any wealth the other had and the banks end up taking over them! If only one looks to the welfare of others, they wouldn't do lie or be greedy.

Desist from greed.
