One thing
Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but [this] one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
What matters most in your life? Fulfilling the will of God and handling all that we have been given with care and multiplying it. You cannot grow what you do not count and you don't count what is not important to you. God is interested in the numbers as much as many don't want to view Him that way.
In the parable, the master did not give them talents without number. He gave them a certain number they needed to focus on. We are not called to focus on our neighbours call but on ours. In fact, the day one starts to focus on multiplying the gifts, talents, money, ministries and they start seeing the fruit of it is the day one receives good counsel of how they could do it better. And you wonder why such advice hasn't worked in the ministries of such ones who are masters at giving good counsel.
One time we were talking about some men of God with some friends and this particular person came up in the conversation. Why did they become the focus of the talk, it's because the man of God focused on his ministry and God gave the increase. Then some commented that if they now have the audience of the top leaders in the country, why don't they tell them to change this and change that? Now that the ministry grew and is well-known, talk can give such advice. But the encouragement is if they have grown what's in their care, you too can grow yours.
Once a man focuses on the one thing they have been called to, it will definitely grow and attract the attention of the great. Paul says one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind me. Christians above all else need to focus on the one thing, to steward God's resources. It's absurd that many wake up when it is too late. Some focus after some huge tragedy has happened in their lives and most times a near death experience. Don't be like some of those. Focus on the one thing and grow it.
We tend to grow and forget what got us here. Do you remember when we were in school and we are advised to delay things like relationships so that we give our attention to education? What was the result, we excelled? Some of those disciplines which worked then ought to work even today. God won't commend you for doing a lot but for having been faithful to what you were called to do.
The strength of a laser is on its focused intensity. Your strength and the ability to enjoy what you do lies on the power of focus. You will get the answers to the questions that lie unanswered in your business, ministry, work etc once you focus. No man will give you better advice than you yourself once you dwell on it fully. It's high time we became masters of our own business affairs when we start to focus on the one thing given to us.
