Something more than gold

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

There are life's greatest treasures which money, gold and silver cannot buy. These are riches which only God through Christ can give. The gift of salvation is the greatest gift a man can ever get. But how many rich people appreciate this gift? How many value it's worth more than anything they own? The numbers may not be many.

With everything within their reach, it's hard for men to hunger for God because they tend to independence from God instead. Someone has ever asked a question which seems so typical of independent mindedness. If I find you praying to God to give you something and I give it to you, will you thank me or God? Such a person is not far from believing that it's because of the need for riches that poor people go to church. And that the day they get rich, they no longer have a reason to go to church! How then can one preach to a rich man like that to get saved? By pointing them to the saviour who took away the sin of the world. Everyone except those in Christ are sinners by nature and thus cannot enter into relationship with God unless they are born again.

Men buy their way most times with their money but as for salvation, you cannot buy it with gold. Only by putting faith in Jesus does one obtain that salvation. The reason many don't focus on the afterlife is because they see the world in it's beauty and conclude that this is all there is. No there's more. A much better life is promised than this we see. In the new heaven and new earth there won't be crying and weeping, there won't be sickness, poverty, disease. I am yet to see a street made out of gold here on earth but in heaven they are there.

Men always seek one greater than them but God is above all. All the rich ought to bow down in worship to Him because He's great. I don't know how some kings or rulers feel when their people seek out one who is "bigger than the biggest, higher than the highest, greater than the greatest" yet the are doing everything to improve the state of their nations, kingdoms or territories where they rule. How do husbands feel when their wives cry out to greater husband and groom, Jesus yet they can't see Him! For such a husband to stay in such a marriage has to either be in relationship too with Jesus or they will have friction in their marriage. Employers are not left out, they are the earthly masters of believers and non believers alike but there's a heavenly master who is Jesus who is far greater than them, the earthly masters. He is friend who is closer than a brother! If you mention this to your family members they can get offended. If anyone takes such statements literally for what they are at face value has to be so pissed to have a believer like that as a citizen, spouse, friend or employee! Some rulers actually sensed that they couldn't compete with such a God and this led to martyrdom of believers in the recent past. For such a ruler, employer, friend, husband etc to bow down to worship the King of kings and Lord of Lords, he or she has to be so humble and acknowledge that there is a God who is all that to us and they are not Him!

Child of God, regardless of the state we find ourselves in, you and I have something more than gold and that's Jesus Christ of Nazareth who gives us Salvation, hallelujah.
