Indebtedness

Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Our scripture commands us not to owe or be indebted to anyone except the indebtedness of loving them. However some Christians don't have this mind. They simply borrow from anyone they can find. If they are in church, they are good at befriending new members who don't know their habit and ask them to lend them money. This is not good because most of the time they don't pay back and they are not even moved at all. I wonder how they can comfortably coexist with the people who owe them. They even go ahead to purchase new items in full view of their borrowers since they can notice that so and so has new clothes, new shoes etc yet they haven't even paid a coin back to them!

In all good conscience that habit is wrong and those who do it must repent. Once you are indebted, the bible says you should run like a gazelle to clear it off. Some urgency needs to be applied in clearing off your dues. It applies to other areas like work, if a client or your boss gives you an assignment and they have given you part of the money, that assignment should be on your priority list. It's a debt, a charge placed on you. Don't rest until you have cleared it.

If it means working overtime, getting extra income sources, cutting your expenditure, selling your assets to clear off the debt, do it inorder to clear your name. Debt can be interpreted that you went for a shoe size which doesn't fit you, you ought to find your fitting again.

List those debts in their order from the lowest to the highest. And gain momentum by clearing them off in that order. In that time, cut back on outings, purchasing new clothes, home items etc inorder to prioritise your debt clearance. If it means eating simple dishes at home do it. In this time, married couples should aim at one goal, to clear off the debt otherwise if they don't then it won't be possible. On this note, it's a tendency for one spouse to go into debt and they keep quiet about it only to bring problems some time later. You don't really want the pain you will cause your loved ones if you enter into debt however much you try to justify it. At the extreme, loans have led people to die quickly because of the pressure it brings, some develop complicated illnesses which cause more debt! Once the debts are cleared off, slowly get back into your former lifestyle so that you don't plunge into more debt.

It takes a life of discipline and whole lifestyle change to get out of debt and stay out of it. If you have a habit that consumes your money, you will struggle to get clear of debts since it's taking away the money you would have used in part to clear off debts.
