Spending wisely

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places.]

When countries are at war, a lot of money is spent on purchase of ammunition and feeding the soldiers. If one wants to win the war, they spend on the best of the equipment they can. Why enter war without the intention of winning it and why spend on what won't help you win well?

The same it is with us believers, the bible says we are at war against evil spirits. Anything which can aid our work to go on smoothly is worth spending on. If we want to reach more people, spending on efficient equipment will aid us in spreading the gospel far and wide.

The irony to this is when some Christians want to live without the best of these tools because they think being poor is related to being spiritual. If you can afford to buy something to improve your lifestyle and enhance your ministry, spend on it. If you can afford a car, why not buy one? Having one will be better than not having one for the sake of the ministry. If you can afford to eat at a good restaurant, why don't you do so instead of going to one that will leave you with a heavy hospital bill because of the poor hygiene there? The neighborhood you are in is full of chaos because it's very cheap to rent there and yet you can stay in a safer area where you will be secure from thieves. The list is endless.

I don't think it is wise to reject good things in the name of humility. If from what you earn you can tithe, give, save and have enough balance which can enable you afford a better lifestyle, go for it. I have come to realize that everyone wants to have a better life but it's not God's best to go into debt for that lifestyle. The day you enter into debt to have a better lifestyle, that simply means you cannot afford it yet.

Desire to have the best because you are God's best. Spend on the best too to make your ministry efficient.
