A heart that truly cares and is compassionate for the lost

Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

At times I listen to some who call themselves believers and you really wonder whether they are truly believers. The things that bother them, concern them or what they value is sometimes miles apart from what the Bible says or from the heart of Christ. To make it worse, some shepherds or leaders too are taken up by the same kind of attitude.

A true Christian should really care about the lost and dying world. Like Jesus was compassionate, they too should have a similar kind of heart else they are not truly saved. A true Christian is not one in name only or born to Christian parents or attends church regularly but one who has received the gift of salvation and is born again.

From then one God gives them a heart like His. David had a heart after God's, Christians have more than what David had, His indwelling Spirit. Supernaturally they develop godly feelings towards others even when they have just got saved. They hate sin and everything that God hates. Therein their actions follow.

Remember the two women that were contending for a child in Solomon's time? One was okay with the child being cut in two because it was not hers. The other pleaded that it shouldn't be done because she was the real owner of the child. The mere fact that she genuinely wanted the child to live proved that she was the rightful owner and Solomon ordered that let the child be given her.

That same attitude is seen in David defending the father's sheep as though they were his. He also did the same in leading Israelites in and out during war. Those inclinations didn't come because he had a position yet which some desperately yearn for before they can do anything.

A compassion and ownership attitude to the lost and kingdom work approves that you're a true Christian and a leader God will use so mightily. With this attitude, you can lead wherever you find yourself to be even without a title or a position.

Further scriptures

Genesis 31:36-41 And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What [is] my trespass? what [is] my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me? Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set [it] here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both. This twenty years [have] I [been] with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten. That which was torn [of beasts] I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou require it, [whether] stolen by day, or stolen by night. [Thus] I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes. Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

1 Samuel 17:34-36 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered [it] out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught [him] by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

1 Kings 3:24-27 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. Then spake the woman whose the living child [was] unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, [but] divide [it]. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she [is] the mother thereof.
