Overcome excuses

Luke 14:16-21 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

Soul winning is closely related to church growth and church planting. The souls we win must be followed up and planted in a Spirit filled and Bible believing church otherwise our labours will be in vain.

Since the soul of a man is made up of a man's mind, will, emotions, conscience, temperaments and personality winning those aspects to the Lord means a man can only do it by the wisdom only God gives. It's not a one time thing, it's for a lifetime. We are ever being won over to God's ways of thinking and believing whenever we read or listen to God's word.

For that reason the Bible says he who wins souls is wise. When one's soul is won, access is also made into a man's spirit which becomes born again. The born again spirit gets saved once. This therefore means that the soul of a man is the gate into a man's spirit.

Man has a brain which reasons. And when he doesn't want to do something he gives you all sorts of excuses. Most times excuses are lies which someone puts up for not doing something. If we don't learn to counter excuses, we shall not have people to show for our labours. And remember ministry is all about people.

Just as the theme scripture contains excuses of people for not attending the party the rich man organised, they are similar to what we always hear people give nowadays. Some of them include; "I always wash on Sunday," suggest to them to wash on a Saturday for instance, "I don't have transport," give them the transport for the first or second attendance, at the third attendance they will bring themselves, "I am tired on Sundays and I want to rest, tell them that there's no better rest and refreshing than that which God gives in His presence etc.

Some Christians cannot take time to convince people because they don't know any better. In their hearts they feel like people know what they want, or they have a wrong philosophy which says, you cannot change anyone etc. On the contrary man doesn't know what they truly want unless they discover it from the Lord. Secondly God, like Jeremiah has given us authority to plant, uproot, destroy and subdue kingdoms and strongholds of the mind through His Word. So by God's power we can destroy all arguments against Christ however clever they maybe. We are God's change agents and ambassadors.

Learn to overcome excuses as you win souls to the Lord.
