Favour with God and man
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
When God calls us into ministry, we ought to count ourselves blessed because it is a great honour. But after the call, men need to embrace that call for you to minister to them. If you are the only one who can see it, and no one else does, then there is a big problem. So the favour one gets is at two fronts, before God and before men.
Like I wrote previously, if the call is not there, one will tend to force himself to lead the people. But again, if the call is there and yet the people do not see it or are yet to see it, you will struggle. It is the reason men are ordained by the laying on of hands. The ordination is simply a public declaration that this man or woman is called into the ministry. It is no longer a private affair between him and God, but it's now an endorsement from the rest of the leaders and the church.
Jesus grew in favour with both man and God. However much He was God in flesh, men had to receive Him as a prophet and as the anointed one of God. The greatest prophet of the day John the baptist received him and introduced him to the people. Paul, too, was introduced to the apostles and leaders of the day by Banabas. David was introduced to the people as king by Samuel and two other times.
On the other hand, there are the self-appointed ones who do all they can to win favour with man and do not have the favour of God. They think that when they politicise in the church and form cliques and cocoons, they will get into leadership. They are what Jesus calls the thieves and robbers who would like to steal and destroy the sheep or take authority in the wrong way. One such example was Absalom. He stole the hearts of the people, and yet he was not the rightful king. His end was not good even when he became king eventually.
If God has called you, wait patiently until you are rightly introduced before the people. Do not force your way into it prematurely.

2 Samuel 15:2-6 And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was [so], that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city [art] thou? And he said, Thy servant [is] of one of the tribes of Israel. And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters [are] good and right; but [there is] no man [deputed] of the king to hear thee. Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice! And it was [so], that when any man came nigh [to him] to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him. And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it to be so] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
