God is unchangeable

(Mal 3:6)  For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

God does not change because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He can be relied on because His word is forever established in the heavens. His word can be predicted to come to pass. If He said it, be certain it will come to pass.

Have you ever met an unpredictable and ever-changing person? One moment, their moods are calm; the next, they are angry and bitter. Such people are hard to work with and hard to please. Every time you get around them, you'd better pray they woke up on the right side of the bed, or they might act weird. If they lose a prospective client, the whole company will know; if they lose money, or someone else loses money by making a mistake, or even helping themselves with it without their permission, they become uneasy, and everyone will be uneasy because the boss is uneasy.

I have had an experience with a landlord who falls in that category. The person is very calm when you are on good terms, but when you raise a problem about the houses, and yet they are facing some pressure to clear loans for the houses you are renting, you will get the brunt of the person. And you get to wonder whether they are the same people you are dealing with.

Ever-changing people do not make good friends, bosses, or even employees. Imagine that God is like that, who would even dare draw close to Him in prayer, flock the churches, read His Word, etc? And He is calling us to such a place of confidence and security where you can know that surely every time you call upon His name, He will answer you in times of trouble. You cannot go to God if you think that today He is not in a good mood since you did not act well the other day! He will always receive you with open arms because He is unchanging.

Since we are His children (those who received His Son by faith), we have the same nature as Him. In practice, you can also be like Him. Let people rely on you and refer to you as one who is unchanging in nature.

If you want to lead well, it is the best trait to have. People want to follow you, but you need to be predictable. Do not commit to a cause one day, and you are out of it the next day. Do not show two facets of yourself in private and another in public. May you be unchanging, just as your Father in heaven is unchanging.
