Giving your best as first fruit
Numbers 18:12 “All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the firstfruits of them which they shall offer unto the LORD, them have I given thee.”
Firstfruit in the Bible were meant to be given to God but received by and eaten by the priests who served in the temple. Since it was meant to be eaten, I wonder if the believers could bring a bad harvest knowing full well that someone would consume it, moreover their priest. This scripture is thus so fundamental on the nature of firstfruit one gives. Yesterday we saw a kind of firstfruit given regularly. This am writing about is one where a person gives the best of the harvest to their priest.
If one had a garden and they harvest fruit, it would not be honouring for them to bring bad fruit to the house of God however much it was the one that budded first. They would select the best of the best as firstfruit. If it was an animal which was the firstborn, they would not offer a lame or one which was torn by a beast or had defects!
When it comes to offering money, nowonder some people have purposed not to give coins in the offering! You may call it pride, but they have caught a revelation of giving God the best. They rather not give than give Him coins! Others cannot hand in old and torn money in the offertory basket. They get the good ones to offer. Others have purposed not to give below certain denominations. If they don't offer anything above a certain amount, they feel like it is dishonouring to their God.
Some have gone ahead to give a random offering which even after regular giving has been made. For instance one is a farmer and they identify a very nice fruit which looks so exceptional, maybe its the biggest of all, maybe it is the most nice looking, and they decide to bring it to the house of God and to their priest.
For instance you can be passing by the market and you see bunches of matooke, if you spot one which is exceptionally big and good, the first person you would think about is your pastor, to buy it for him! "Pastor will love this," you may say, and you send it to him. Such a gift which is a first fruit because its the best of all can happen on any day not necessarily in January. I do not have space to give all the examples in the world but the Bible says we should share in all good things with those who feed you spiritually. Many have done so and God has tremendously blessed them. I had heard of one who gave their pastor a good goat which would birth to many kids at once which is very rare. Others give the best of hens that are so exceptional in hatching eggs to their man of God. Some carry a big cock etc.
Think of the best place you can offer your pastor for a vacation, think about sponsoring one of his child in the best school, walk about the supermarket and mind about the best you can buy for him, think of a good suit you can buy besides yours you have gone to buy. If the transportation of that gift is hard, translate that value into monetary worth and send to them. Think of the best flower vases you van buy to buy for the church, a carpet, a nice curtain, nice furniture to replace the ones in the pastors office, the list is endless.
Depending on where you pray from, firstfruit is either given directly to your priest or collectively to the church offerings though clearly marked as firstfruit. But the principle remains, it ought to be given to honour God.
A heart which gives firstfuit out of the best of their harvest shows they have a revelation of how God has been good to them by blessing them with men of God that feed them the word of God. May God open your heart to always think about every good and best harvest to give to the house of God and your priest.
