Labouring

1 Corinthians 15:58  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Paul talks to beloved brethren. If we can put it in context, he was referring to those who were labouring and working tirelessly for the Lord. On top of that they are stedfast, unmoveable.

Many believers operate like balloons; they are inflated and deflated at the same time. At one point, they are on fire for God; at another point, they are not. They do not have staying power. But this is not in ministry alone. Statistics show that Uganda is one of the most entrepreneurial nations of the world yet most of such business start ups fail to make it to their first birthday. I have also heard from one entrepreneur and employer who said that there's a problem with this generation when it comes to work. Their attitude is poor towards work. They also lack concentration and worse of it all they expect things to go their way in a twinkle of an eye. They start work today and want to drive, own land and build in one year. When they don't see that come to pass as they think, they give up altogether on laborious work and opt for quick ways of earning.

On the contrary, the one who labours perseveres in what he is doing until he sees the intended results. That is why Jesus will reward good and faithful servants and not the once on fire and out of fire servants. Not that I have it all together, but at least I have seen some like that who do not stay at their posts until something happens or works out.

Remember the parable that Jesus gave? The people who were employed in the morning, and during the day laboured till evening, until it was time up. Giving God timelines of service, especially when they are based on selfish ambitions is not biblical. You cannot say your aim of being in ministry is based on a desire to be blessed materially in a certain time frame instead of coming into ministry with heart which simply loves God and wants to do something for God.

Child of God let us labour much, labour long and labour till we meet the Lord.
