Contentment II
Ecclesiastes 2:24 "There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God."
There's always something to worry about if you are alive in this world from the news of war, to hearing a neighbour fighting with the wife or a death happening or someone losing their job etc. In fact one preacher said if you are not depressed then perhaps you are not paying attention.
But the wise preacher Solomon tells us not to complicate life, nor complicate joyful living by simply enjoying your meal. As ordinary as that sounds, but it can yield tremendous results when you do. Must you first accumulate millions on your bank account, all the cars you need or all the vacations in nice places to enjoy life? No the posho and beans, the glass of water from your sweat can actually satisfy you.
Speaking about labour, do you know that the most tired people are not those who work a job or business but those who simply sit and do nothing? In fact if one wants to die quickly, remove work from them. Work in a way gives someone purpose and something to live for. This can be paid or unpaid. Waking up everyday with a program and agenda of the things you have to do helps you live longer than a retired civil servant. Nowonder research has it that people die sooner than later after their retirement. Eating the bread of idleness is dangerous, you start imagining things you shouldn't, and make a fool out of yourself. Idleness causes some to roam on social media whole day; now that is unproductive work which doesn't satisfy.
At the end of the day, after winning souls, encouraging a depressed one, praying for people in hospitals, prisons, feeding orphans, working a job, engaging the mind to think and write productive literature and then enjoying your sleep or rest after the fatigue of having worked something that day is so satisfying. The money you get is a reward for the productive work you have done and is enjoyed more than just being given it. Nowonder it's more blessed to give than to receive.
Don’t Bury yourself with the cares of today and tomorrow. Enjoy today. Be content today. Enjoy your meal, enjoy your work.
