Jeremiah 32:17-18 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, [and] there is nothing too hard for thee: Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, [is] his name,
Many scriptures refer to His mighty hand as the display of His tremendous power. In war times, God helped Israelites overcome their enemies and was victorious at all fronts. He is a champion in all storms which may arise.
He was victorious over Pharoah while rescuing the Israelites from Egypt, He fought David's battles, He also sent His Son who overcame the war of sin and death and bring us salvation. Jesus too is also called by this name in the book of Isaiah because of what He accomplished on our behalf in His death, burial and resurrection. Simply put He is mighty to save.
In our theme scripture and in Psalm 50:1, His might was displayed during the creation of the world. If you have been around for sometime, you should come to appreciate that everything great we needs some kind of supernatural power for it to happen. It's a battle of powers, my pastor calls it "power for power." As the devil worshippers invoke spirits to deceive men and cause chaos allover, we instead invoke God's mighty hand and power to win and bring good to this world. As men make fortresses, arm themselves physically, we arm ourselves with God’s Word which will help overcome conflict among our relations and make or create peace, turn the other cheek, love our neighbours as ourselves etc. The power to walk in righteousness is not small. One who used to spend all his energy in fornication, boozing, trouble making but now are the converted lovers of one wife, sober and peace keeping Christians, God's power had to be involved. One preacher actually says that the greatest display of God's power was not in the creation of the world but in raising up Jesus from the dead and making us new creations.
Child of God, there's no mountain too high that He cannot overcome on your behalf. If He overcame the power of sin and death, that situation is too small. Minimise it before your eyes.
