Mary and Martha I
Luke 10:38-42 'Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
The Bible gives us two characters, one is Mary and another is Martha. And Christians act like either or both of the them.
It says as they went a certain woman welcomed Jesus into her house just like many of us do welcome Jesus into our lives. It represents the day we got saved and welcomed Jesus into our lives. But what happens after we welcome Jesus into our lives? The Bible says that Mary her sister sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to Him. That act by Mary is a sign of adoration and worship. Mary sitting at His feet is not only adoration but also worship. In the same way we ought to let our life be that of worship continually after getting saved.
We should also keep feeding on Christ for many believers after receiving Jesus, instead of feeding on Him, start to work for Jesus. They forget to have fellowship and communion with the master they welcomed into their lives. They don’t have time to read His word or even to worship Him.
When you read the account, it tells us that Martha was busy preparing meals. Many of us are doing good things including ministry but forget to have time with our saviour.
Child of God, you should work, study, look after the children but the most important of all is to create time and sit at the feet of Jesus, read and hear His word. Do not be distracted like Martha with much serving and fail to commune with the Lord.
