Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Grace is the unmerited favour of God. It is receiving something from the Lord that we do not deserve. Mercy on the other hand is not getting what we deserve. Think about a rich man who goes to a prison cell, finds an inmate who has been detained for years and the sentence for that man is to die by execution. This rich man instead goes to the courts and proposes to take on the punishment that the inmate deserves by dying in his place. On top of dying in his place, he leaves all the riches he had accumulated in his entire life to this inmate who is so poor to make it in life since he lost all ever since he entered the prison cell.  How can we demonstrate grace and mercy in that instance?  Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. There are two kinds of love, human love and the God kind of love. The two are totally different when you differentiate the characteristics. Only Christians are capable of loving their neighbours with the God kind of love because it has been shade abroad in their hearts by the Holy Spirit. They can also love with the human kind of love which enables them to relate with fellow humans. The non believer on the other hand has only the human kind of love at his disposal. He cannot love like God loves. Because his spirit is dead, he can only love as far as his senses, emotions and the mind can lead him.   If one only loves with the human kind of love, the love for their neighbour they had yesterday can quickly change into hatred the following day. (Gen 6:5)  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. What are imaginations? Strong’s dictionary defines them as, “to mould into a form or to squeeze into shape. It also means to determine or form a resolution.” What comes out of such a process are images or pictures playing in one’s mind as a result of what man thinks about. Thoughts whether good or bad create images of what is to come before it actually comes to pass. A man can sit there with fearful thoughts and starts to imagine vain things about what is to come. They imagine how something will not work out, how they will fall into an accident, how they might die etc. thus weakening their faith and expectations. Man can be unreliable where situations do not favour him.   After getting born again, one enters a lifelong journey of becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ. This journey shapes a believer into a mature Christian who is able to discern both good and evil. Baby Christians as the Bible says are in need of milk, not the meat of the word of God. It is not good to thrust them immediately into the ministry because they are novices.   (Act 4:23)  And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. Every Christian is surrounded by what we call the terms their “own company.” We see the that in the book of Acts that Peter and John after being released from trial for preaching in the name of Jesus and healing a lame man went to their own company who received them and prayed with them. As we do ministry, we are being opposed by forces in the unseen realm and these forces influence human beings who also persecute us in the process. In our scripture reference, the one man’s offence by which death reigned was Adam’s sin. Death is not only physical death but also the effects, forms and the results of death such as sickness, disease, lack, poverty, etc. It is through the spiritual death that physical death resulted. Man was not going to die physically if he hadn’t died spiritually. Death means separation. Man’s spirit was separated from the life of God in the beginning. James 3:16 For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work. The bible says where envy and strife is, there's confusion and every evil work. I have come to prove this scripture very true. Many relationships are broken because of envy and strife. Many ventures or dreams cannot get off the ground because of envy and strife.  So and so cannot work with so and so because of one having offended another in the past has not caused many problems but a few. There cannot be orderliness or progress in any thing if there is envy and strife. Struggle to be ahead, hidden and unresolved issues and a desire for supremacy and power has led to unnecessary strife and envy among families, friends and in church too! It is the spirit of the age we are living in for men to be selfish and express a lack of care for others. We see it on our roads when everyone wants to have right of way and this has led to accidents not a few. Some drivers are so arrogant and use foul language every now and then. Ezekiel 2:2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me. I have had times before when I got on fire for God and then moments when am so cold. I have got times when I love to pray, read the word, preach the gospel and at other times when the thought of any of those just makes me feel it's a mountain to climb to do those things.  There are times in my past when we went for a week on mission ground and all week was stuffed with gospel related activities and it was easy enough to preach, teach, pray, evangelise or even do bible study but immediately when that week was over and am on my own at home I couldn't sustain those very things.  Why was that so? 2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Many a times we hear from the pulpits that a Christian should be one of good character and morally sound and that is known by most believers and strive to live in the best way they could. No wonder the phrase "what would Christ do?" If it were Him in a particular scenario. Although this is good, Christians are ignorant about them being well equipped and competent enough to represent Jesus fully to the dying world around them. Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Discipleship is a call to be like Christ in everything. It is a place where one is invited into a covenant relationship with God but as well accept the responsibility of representing Him to others in the world. No one was born as a disciple. Rather everyone after becoming born again starts a journey of becoming a lifelong learner of the Lord Jesus Christ.  How did Jesus disciple others? He did what Mike Breene describes as invitation and challenge relationship. By invitation He drew his disciples into a close relationship with himself where they were loved and cared for. Joshua 1:1-2 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Ephesians 3:14-15 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, Church is one big family of God where He is the head and we are His children. Church started meeting in the temple as well as in homes. Families in the world are breaking every now and then. Others are dysfunctional. It is not rare to hear of single mothers, or father's, orphans, etc. What has God done about it? God has given us the gift of the church family. The church is the solution to our hurts due to broken families. How then should we treat the church, we should treat it as one  family built by God. What makes a good family? The rhythms and activities in the family. There is time when families ought to eat together, play together, pray together etc. If these things are done and one person regularly misses, then there is a problem.   (1Pe 5:10)  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. I have seen many a Christian fearful of joining ministry because of the evil of perfectionism. This is quite common because many think they are not good enough or worthy enough to do anything for God. This should not be a hindrance. But unfortunately, it is. We all live once. None has ever lived in time past and is back again living in the present. At least we are having an equal footing there. 1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. God's work on the earth is propagated by men and women who have given their lives for it. These men need to be accorded double Honour. Meaning if you honour others in a measure, do it twice as much to the men and women who labour among you in word and doctrine. But the Bible is specific to those who do well among you. Meaning they are not entitled to that honour because they are men of God but because of the input they have had in our lives. Joel 2:7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: The world today has advocated for everyone's rights in all manner of categories or group one may be found in. Everyone's voice is raised to match another's. Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. God can do things out of the Normal order. He can do something beyond science. He can do something beyond technology. He can do something beyond the biological time. Matthew 7:3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Do you know that you are your own business to look after? Why do I say so. Because there is a lot of things about you you are ignorant of. First you don't know who you are and what God made you to be. Secondly you don't know what you carry. Third you don't have a clear vision of your life. How come you have all the time to mind other people's business except yours. Moreover you take the place of a judge to see what is not done well and voice it out to be corrected. It's high time you did a self examination. Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Time is a resource we often take for granted. We waste it on a daily basis yet it is scarce. Once time is lost it can't be regained yet it is an independent variable used to measure anything and everything in Life. God is not pleased when we waste time. The Bible says there is time for everything. This calls for time management if you are to be effective in whatever you're doing. If the project is for 3 months, do it in those months and go for another project. Doing this will enable you accomplish more in a little time. Remember that each second and minute counts. We only have 24 hrs in the day, we only have particular days in the month, they won't increase or decrease. Just learn to value time you will use it effectively. Matthew 1:22-23 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying ["Behold,] [ the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,"] which is translated, "God with us." It took years for this word to come to pass before Jesus was conceived in the womb of Mary. Nevertheless it had to come to pass. Sometimes life can be so hard and we end up giving up on what the Lord said to us. God is true to His word, it will always come to pass. You just need the virtue of being patient as you are waiting on the Lord. Which word has God given you or which word did God give you? Do you know that what he gave you was a seed?
