Mary and Martha III

Luke 10:38-42 'Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her Although being a busy body is discouraged in church, at the same time you should not limit your potential for to whom much is given, much is expected. When you have been given much, you should do much. Simply know what the Lord has called you to do and do it.  You surely need other people's help in accomplishing that vision only it shouldn't be by complaining. Com...

Mary and Martha II

Luke 10:41-42 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Like Martha was distracted, there are many things that distract us. Distraction is one of the tricks of the devil. His main aim is to distract you with many things so that you are taken off focus and off your calling. It is very bad to live all your life and you never walk in your calling. To some, they actually discover their calling way later when they are too old. Everyone of us, God has set a calling on our lives and it is very good to discover early and walk in it.  We need to serve diligently but the focus of our lives is Jesus Christ. The Bible says when we behold Jesus, we become more and more like Him. All other things become nothing in comparison. We need to learn from nature. Do you know that a lion however much it is rhe king of the jungle can die of hun...

Mary and Martha I

Luke 10:38-42 'Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. The Bible gives us two characters, one is Mary and another is Martha. And Christians act like either or both of the them. It says as they went a certain woman welcomed Jesus into her house just like many of us do welcome Jesus into our lives. It represents the day we got saved and welcomed Jesus into our lives. But what happens after we welcome Jesus into our lives? The ...

Wisdom VII

Proverbs 2:6 says, 'For the Lord gives wisdom, out of his mouth comes wisdom and understanding'.  God uses people as His mouth piece. You may not discern His voice most of the time but you can hear Him through His chosen vessels, the preachers and teachers of the Word. Therefore take time to listen to preachers not just on Sundays when you go to church but as much as you can. Download some good sermons, get an audio Bible, do everything you can to make sure you are feeding your mind with the Word of God continuously. As you do that, you are growing in wisdom in handling thr affairs of life. Through that you will learn to walk in the spirit of understanding the  and you will find yourself winning in every area of your life because of the wisdom of God in you. The wise shall call you wise because of the wisdom you will display. No one will despise you. There are some accounts of men who after getting saved and hearing the Word every now and then they started to get straight A...

Wisdom VI

Proverbs 4:5 'Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.' There are many treasures that are hidden in Christ, our wisdom. But how do we discover them? It is by feeding on Christ and keep on doing it all the time. Feeding on Christ is simply reading the Word of God deeper and go beyond what you have heard being preached for God will speak to you things the preachers never even taught you before. It is what the Bible calls on us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. As you grow in the knowledge of God, you are growing in wisdom. Growing takes time. You don’t plant a seed today and expect it to grow immediately And we never stop growing. Even when you are 20 years in salvation you still need the Word. Proverbs 2:6 says, 'For the Lord gives wisdom, out of his mouth comes wisdom and understanding'. God uses people as His mouth piece. You may not discern His voice most of the time but you can hear Him throu...

Wisdom V

1 Corinthians 2:7 'But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:' Paul continues to tell the Corinthian church about the hidden wisdom which is Christ Jesus whom Solomon testified about in the Old testament.  Some may ask, 'how come many Christians are not walking in wisdom?' It is because they have not yet understood this truth yet that this wisdom is available for them too for it is the truth we know that sets us free. The truth you don’t know won’t do anything for you, John 8:32.  This wisdom is activated through prayer. In marriage for example, wives ought to pray for their husbands so that God gives them a spirit of wisdom and revelation so tht he leads you and your home the right way. Even when you as the wife has all the wisdom, you will go down the drain with it if the husband is not wise.  Position and influence are key. Men have the position for they are the heads. Women are the necks t...

Wisdom IV

1 Corinthians 2:4 'And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:'  Since Christ has become unto us wisdom, 1 Cor 1:30, let's therefore embrace that truth and walk in it. Let our reasoning be based not on human wisdom but on Christ, our wisdom. We ought not to think as the world thinks for our wisdom is from on high. When you are listening to a teacher or a preacher, look out whether they are talking about Christ the Son of the living God or just talking merely about human affairs. Some keep talking about traditions or philosophies of men rather than preaching Christ. Some end up preaching about themselves, instead of pointing us to Christ. Avoid listening to talk on pulpits which is only full of talk about wisdom of men rather than the wisdom from above. This is true too about the natural things we get exposed to. You see a Christian feeding on news from morning to evening. What news? Adulter...

Wisdom III

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: David wrote in Psalms 23:4 that, 'even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.' How do people end up walking in the valley of the shadow of death[problems]? It is because they are not walking in wisdom. But thank God who even when we get ourselves in trouble and are in need of a miracle to get out of there, our good shepherd performs a miracle and saves us. Just like the one who has their marriage restored through prayer and breaks again for lack of wisdom,  so is one who gets into financial problems. They get into debt of say 1 million. God does a miracle through prayer and they clear it and only a few months later the same believer slips into a bigger debt of 5 million because they lacked the wisdom to walk debt free. There we don't attribute it to generational curses or demons which were broken...

Wisdom II

Proverbs 3:13-16 'Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.' Living long is associated with walking in divine health. Imagine you are a father and your kids are yearning for you to put them on your shoulders but you cannot because you are ill. No one would love such a situation even though they are wealthy. If a rich man lies on his death bed. Will he want to call for his lawyers so that he signs a business deal and close it before he dies? No, he will ask God to give him life so that he may serve his family, enjoy his children and friends. Being healthy is important but it takes wisdom to live healthy. In Christ, both wisdom and longevity are available for you....

Wisdom I

2 Chronicles 9:7 'Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.' When the queen of Sheba went to visit Solomon in 2 chronicles 9:7, she concluded that, 'happy are your men and your servants who stand to continually hear your words of wisdom.'  After years of taking heed to God’s word, our lives begin to change. The only reason for that is that the Word of God reveals God's wisdom to us which transforms us. When God asked Solomon what he wanted from Him as he was ascending to the throne of his father David, Solomon asked for wisdom. 'Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?' (2Ch 1:10). The Bible says God gave Solomon wisdom, knowledge, wealth greater than any other king before or after him. It is estimated that if he was alive today, he would be worth over 200 billion dollars, an amount none has ever...

Abundance I

Image
Luke 5:7 And they beckoned unto [their] partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. From our theme scripture we understand that Peter signaled to only one boat. Had he signaled to as many boats as he could, wouldn’t they have been filled too? Obviously they would but at that point Peter had little faith. Child of God that should teach you a lesson to enlarge your capacity to receive God’s huge blessing by faith.  What limits may be the formal education we received in school. For instance we learn things like economics which tell us about scarcity of resources and that even influences our thinking or speech. On the contrary if we choose to side with the Word, we shall be overcomes and walk in the abundance that God desires us to. Their boats started to sink because of the extravagant and abundant blessing that they experienced in a short time! This should teach us that God does not...

Generational blessings III

Genesis 39:5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field. In Genesis 39 we see a generational blessing at work in Joseph’s life, a beloved son of Jacob. Earlier in his life, Jacob, his father gave him a coat of many colours which signifies favour. When joseph was sold to Egypt by his brothers, because of the favour that was on him, Egypt became the food basket for the entire world. A whole generation was about to die but because of Joseph, it was saved.  Joseph is a picture of Christ. Christ is the beloved Son of our Father, favored and loved by Him but was hated so much and betrayed by his own brethren, the Jews. Jesus was betrayed and handed over by the Jews to the Romans to be killed and for 2000 years Jesus ended up in the hearts of Egyptians(gentiles) like you and me an...

Generational blessings II

Galatians 3:13-14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. God is a generational God. God called Abraham; therefore, He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. How does that happen? When God blessed Abraham, He told him that generations after him will also be blessed and that happened to his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob. Up to today the biological Jews pride themselves a lot in being sons of Abraham for God blessed them because they are the natural seed of Abraham. The truth is Isaac did not have so many encounters with God per say but the blessing just came to him simply because he was a son of Abraham. If that was true for them, it is also true for us since we are in Christ Jesus. In Christ, we inherit the blessing of Abraham. What then is o...

Generational blessings I

Jeremiah 31:29-30 In those days they shall say no more, the fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge Our theme scripture is one that is always quoted but misused by those that preach on generational curses. The church has been so accustomed to hear about generational curses but so little has been heard about generational blessings that are ours in Christ Jesus. When you hear generational curses all the time, that forms your life because what a man hears forms their belief system and their belief system forms their life. The Bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The reverse is true. Fear and doubt and curses come by hearing and hearing wrong teaching. The teaching on generational curses is based on this premise that your father and grandfather or someone in your lineage sinned. Unless you are not observant, y...

Grace IV

Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus told His disciples, 'you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free'. It is not just the truth that will set you free but the truth 'you know' is what will set you free. Many people are aware of Bible truths. Even the devil knows some truths. For example he knows that Jesus is the Son of God but that has never had any influence on him until truth becomes revelational knowledge or until it moves from the head to the heart, it will never have impact in one's life.  Peter answered Jesus’ question of who He was by revelation. Then Jesus told him that on this rock of revelation, not Peter, will I build my church. Although the disciples saw Jesus,  they didn't see him like Peter did. That's how two people can sit under the same message, same church, same preacher but they leave church after service with varying opinions of the message. One is asked ‘h...

Grace III

Hebrews 13:8-9 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For [it is] a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. The Bible says the Grace of God will establish you. What you have to know is that not every word you hear is able to build and establish you so be careful what you take in.  The people the writer of Hebrews referred to thought that meats, strange doctrines would in a way establish them. That was not only wrong thinking, it was false. The word of grace is that which establishes a believer and grounds them. The word of grace is the word of Christ, who is the same yesterday, today and forever. In all you seek, seek to be established in the grace of God.

Grace II

Image
Act 20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Sheep have shepherds to watch over them, how about the shepherds themselves? Paul committed them to the Word of His grace. The same word they are committed to by God, is the same they commit to the sheep. Even when Paul knew that savage wolves will come to tear down the flock, their best security was the Word. What inheritance is there for them? Glory in heaven and on earth, righteousness, faith, truth etc.  It also builds up a believer spiritually and physically. Men who are given to it grow in maturity and their bodies healthy. The best place one can ever be in is in the Word of His Grace.

2 Peter 3:15-16 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Paul had received a divine revelation about the gospel of the grace of God, which was not revealed to the first apostles. This was acknowledged by all, including Peter.  In Galatians 2, Paul rebuked Peter publicly at Antioch for not acting in a manner worthy of the gospel he preached. Peter was a great pillar of the New Testament church. For Paul to openly rebuke him means Paul knew exactly what he was doing. For Peter to accept the rebuke is a sign that he recognised what was on Paul. Peter's actions were hypocritical. At one point, he sided with those of the uncircumcision, sign...

Genesis 12:2-3 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. In our theme scripture, we see Abraham promised a blessing so that he would also become a blessing to others. In proceeding chapters he became so rich in cattle, gold and in good works too.  He was a blessing in the rescue of Lot and helping overcome the enemies of King of Sodom and Gomorrah in the battle of the Kings. After rescuing Lot, he didn't even take anything from the spoils, lest they say that his riches was a result of that war. He entirely trusted God and God made him rich, this showed how he was not only content in his relationship with God, but also how blessed he was. God can make you so rich that you become a great blessing to the work of God. This was true to the church at Macedonia who looked for every opport...

Prosperity V

Image
Psalms 35:27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. Child of God you need to expect good things to come your way. Let your heart be established on that. Do not be double minded, not knowing what to expect.  There is a teaching which has been popularised nowadays called positive thinking. If you are not careful you may mistake it for faith but it isn't. Positive thinking is an attitude that only expects positive things based on one's own willpower. Faith on the other hand expects good things based on God's word. The former is based on the mind of a man. The later is based on the mind of God.  Positive thinking says if man desires something so badly then they get it. Underline "man". When has man been the centre of things? Isn't that a dethronement of God and enthroning man instead? Doesn't that lead one to self susten...

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. We can succeed in all things that we lay our hands on according to this scripture if we meditate on God's word day and night. I wonder if you believe that statement as radical as it sounds? Many will justify all the suffering they go through and blame it on God wanting to teach then something but all that cannot be farther from the truth.  God's best is to teach us through His Word and not sickness. Would you want your child to learn by sending them diseases or poverty? Am sure you wouldn't but definitely you would wish they hear your instructions and stay away from trouble. Many times you remember what your parent told you when you do the opposite and land into trouble. That's how people are when it com...

Prosperity III : Healthy, Wealthy and Peaceful

Image
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. It is God's will that we prosper and yet still have peace. There are those whose prosperity brought with it worries, pressures, troubles from loans to the point of even taking pills to get sound sleep, taking alcohol to temporarily forget the troubles they are in, play hide and seek from loan shacks and banks coming to get a hold of the property they put in as security, police cases from squoaters they evited illegally from their land without adequate compensation, people blackmailing them or threating to expose them in the papers for the wrong way they got their riches, kidnaps of their children or loved ones, endless imprisonment for fraud etc. The list is endless.  Some after amassing the wealth without a care of their health, end up spending the rest of their lives spending heavily to keep themselves alive, some after wrecking their marriages or families or steppi...

Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. God created man in the beginning and gave man all things except one, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Like Eve added later that touching it was not okay too, if I may borrow her very words for emphasis, many are eating and touching what doesn't belong to them but God's and that's why they aren't prospering.  For instance, many earn money (100%) and instead of giving part of it back to God, in form or tithes or offerings or seed (minimum of 10%), they touch it and eat it! How then can God multiply them if they don't give part of what He has given them back to him yet they can have all the 90% to themselves? Take for instance a little child receiving something to eat from their parent or any adult, when the adult ...

3 John 1:2 "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." John was writing to his beloved Giaus how that he wished that above all things that he would prosper and be in health, even as his soul prospers. If it was written to Giaus, it's your message too. God wants you and I to prosper.    With the rising prices in fuel or foodstuffs, it is still God's will to prosper you even when things aren't looking good in the economy. The abundance Adam lived in before the fall is the prototype of what He wills you and I to have or enjoy. They had all they needed without toil or sweat. Christ's victory on the cross restored us to that state and more than what Adam had. If lack is the story for all those around you, you can live above it for Christ became poor that we might be made rich, hallelujah.  Further scriptures   2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, ye...

Prayer of Jabez III

Image
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. Old testament believers like Jabez prayed for the hand of God to be with them. When they did so, they implied that let God's presence go with them everywhere. It's different for us in the New testament. We have God's presence over us for God shall never leave us nor forsake us. But an unbeliever can be right to pray that God's presence should be with them. God will never do what He has already done in His Word. Some scriptures are already truth not to be prayed for but as facts to be believed and acted on. God will never leave us nor forsake us, that's comforting. We...

Prayer of Jabez II

We don't get the details of how Jabez's past but I make a theological guess that it wasn't good. There are three categories of people, those who live in the past, those who live in the present and those who live in the future.  Those who live in the past are ever conscious of their history of failures and successes. They cry foul of the way they were raised, the missed opportunities and always dream about the good old days. They used to pray, have money, have this or that but they nolonger have those. Those who live in the present don't have a care of the past or the fu...

Prayer of Jabez I

People pray in every way and in all styles. There's nothing as universal as prayer. In fact many use it as an evangelism tool to get inroads to hard hearted. You knock on someone's door and instead of asking to preach to them, you ask to pray for them, they will willingly allow you to go ahead. But the moment they allow you, you give them a brief sermon, lead them to Christ and then pray.  You need to take off time to pray. Many things are at stake and it takes prayer to change them. The Bible speaks of men that prayed and got results, Jabez is one of them. Out of only two verse...

Contentment III

Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works. There's a lot of encouragement nowadays to look like everyone else if you identify that they are better off in one way or the other. The irony with that is that people lose the gratitude and contentment of where they are at the moment if they aren't careful. The theme scripture encourages us to enjoy your bread, drink with a merry heart. My focus is the "your" in that statement and not the neighbours.  It is always said that grass looks greener on the other side, but the day you get there, you won't want what you find there or it may not be a rosy as it was made or appeared to be. My pastor admonishes us through those lines whenever he hears so and so left the ministry for a "new" one in town which seems to be rocking the boat. The day you know the details of things is the day you realise every person, ministry, business has issues...

Contentment II

Ecclesiastes 2:24 "There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God." There's always something to worry about if you are alive in this world from the news of war, to hearing a neighbour fighting with the wife or a death happening or someone losing their job etc. In fact one preacher said if you are not depressed then perhaps you are not paying attention.  But the wise preacher Solomon tells us not to complicate life, nor complicate joyful living by simply enjoying your meal. As ordinary as that sounds, but it can yield tremendous results when you do. Must you first accumulate millions on your bank account, all the cars you need or all the vacations in nice places to enjoy life? No the posho and beans, the glass of water from your sweat can actually satisfy you.  Speaking about labour, do you know that the most tired people are not those who wor...

Contentment I

Philippians 4:11 "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." Paul teaches us that in whatever state he found himself in, he learnt to be content. The number one reason why many people are not content with what they have is because they are ever comparing themselves with others and lose sight of their identity in Christ. By comparing ourselves to others we will realise we don’t have it all.  Being content does not mean that believing God for material things is evil. The blessing of God brings with it material blessings. We have to be content with what the Lord has blessed us with being confident that the same God is able to get us more of our hearts desires.  Content people are very generous with their gifts, talents and posessions. On the other hand a discontent person feels that they do not have enough. They go out of their way to beg and become burdensome to others, some end up stealing and being unfaithful w...

God's will IV: Exercise discernment for every situation

1Samuel 23:4 "Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand." We spoke at length in the previous blogs how God led apostle Paul to a door of ministry that turned out to be one of the best in his life. That ministry journey ended up ministering to the Philippian church who ended up being his partners in the ministry wherever he went. The Macedonians were in dire poverty and yet were his supporters. He experienced so much persecution while there but it worked for his good. There he led the Jailor to the Lord and Lydia a seller of purple. Later when he was in prison in Rome, as he wrote to them, he was in so much joy everytime he remembered them. The Journey yield fruit because he heard from God before he went. In the old testament we see another victorious man of God called David who is also a great example to us all in terms of following God's will. The Bible says ...

God's will III: Hear and obey the Holy Spirit immediately

Act 16:10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel unto them.     It is important to know how God operates and how the world operates. God's ways are unique from the world's ways. For instance, the way Paul received a door for ministry was not how many would have approached it. First he received it by a vision. That was not much of self effort.  There are alot of motivation speakers these days who tell you all that you are to do to succeed. They have framed success in a few principles one must do like "locate yourself strategically, do some networking," etc. On the outside they look okay but God may not need those to fulfil his will.  Am certain God give you a marriage partner, connect you to a great opportunity that will change your life without any of your efforts. Some say you need to "kwetega" literally translated positioning yourself. We have r...

God’s Will II: Wait on the Lord

Act 16:7-9 "After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us." It is until Paul got a vision in the night to go to Macedonia that he knew that God answered his prayer. A rare answer which was not expected at all. To give you context, Mysia where Paul wanted to go is in the East present day Turkey in Asia while Macedonia where the Lord wanted him to go is in the West, present day Greece in Europe totally opposite from where he expected but that what God's will for him. But the point is that Paul waited and God’s plan and will came through in a process of waiting. Ever waited upon an opportunity that was within reach but you had to wait some more? Someone promises you money but all of a sudden they change their mind on the day he promised you. ...

God's will I: Wait on the Lord

Act 16:6-8 "Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, after they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas." What is God's will for you and how do you know you are walking in it? How do you even discover it?  Take for instance Paul. When Paul was seeking for the next place to minister there are places the Lord never permitted him to go to. What we see him do is something that will cause you and I great success, when the Lord forbad him, he had to wait. We don't know how long, I think it took him a while of waiting but he waited.  The secret to succes is simple, "love Jesus, listen to Him, follow Him, obey Him, and wait on Him." Once you love God, and your heart will be set to obey Him and He will lead you to green pastures because He is your good shepherd. You will enjoy the gre...

Desire for ministry

1 Timothy 3:1 This [is] a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. How can we become good disciples of our Lord? Principal thing is one must have a strong desire for ministry.  There are some many God loving people but I feel so sorry for them for they have no desire of any sort for ministry. Whether you serve God or not, you will go to heaven since what takes you to heaven is the blood of Jesus. But more to that, there is a great blessing in serving God. It's such a privilege to be a coworker with God. In fact men who have had visions of heaven say there are many men of God in heaven who regret for not having served Him well.  Friends, serving God gives you fulfilment that no money will ever give you. Desire to serve God, desire to become a disciple who disciples others, desire to have huge impact in the kingdom, desire to become a pastor, desire to plant a church or among those that pioneer to plant one someday etc. All those are go...

Prayer

1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; One of the core principle of becoming a good and effective disciple is prayer. A true disciple must be a prayerful person.  Become a man or woman of prayer. Make sure you have a prayer life, incorporate prayer in your life, be consistent at it.    Like a tool in a mechanics toolbox, so is prayer to the discipler, you cannot do without it. Further scriptures   Ephesians 6:18 "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"

True sons II

(Php 2:22)NKJV But ye know his proven character, that as a son with [his] father, he hath served with me in the gospel.  What makes a true son is character. Character gives people longevity in ministry is character, not your gift. You are nothing without character. So many people are gifted but have zero character. They lack the character of a true disciple.  The church has not been short of winning souls through evangelism and crusades, but we donot have many disciples or sons. The great commission is about making disciples. Souls always come and go but sons stay and serve. As you serve more in the church, you stop praying that God adds you more church members but sons or disciples. You encounter a first timer who comes and tells you, "pastor, wherever you go I will go and wherever you fall I will fall," yet after three months, you don’t see them. But like apostle Paul, may God give us sons and daughters, not just people to give us lip service.  Stand out and don’t just ...

True sons I

Philippians 2:19-22 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's. But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.  Paul testifies about his son Timothy in a powerful way in our theme scripture. I wonder how Timothy felt when he read it. Did he develop any pride as a result? Some do when they are exalted like that but we don't see it in Timothy atleast. Can your mentor boast openly about you like that and it doesn't in any way puff you? "One who is to you likeminded, who naturally cares for the state of his church members, who does seek their own but the things which are Jesus Christ's," what a CV? Am certain Paul could say all these about him because he himself had the same traits for it is said yo...

Assured blessings

Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.    Moses in the old testament read a number of blessings to the Israelites in the book of Deuteronomy 28. At the same time He also read to them curses. Blessings were dependent on their obedience to God's law while curses were dependent on their disobedience.  In the New testament it is quite different.  For example in our theme scripture we discover that Jesus's obedience grants us righteousness, which is a spiritual blessing from God. By His stripes too we are healed.  When you ask a Christian will you go to heaven? Their answer will depend on the righteousness they rest on, whether theirs or Christ's. Out of fear or uncertainty, men hinge their going to heaven on what they have done or not done. Now if Christ has not qualified you for heaven and made you perfect, giving your a spotless free righteousness, I don't think your trying to p...

Those who go after God

(Psa 34:1-5)  A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. Are you ardently going after God? You need to learn from David in the Psalm above.  We learn that those who go after God are consistent in seeking Him. They do not wait for perfect moments; they choose Him daily through praise, prayer, and His Word. To pursue God is to place Him above everything else. It is to find your identity in Him and not in the things of this world. Our theme scripture reminds us that when we seek the Lord, He hears us and delivers us from fear.  Those who...

El Gibbor

Jeremiah 32:17-18 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, [and] there is nothing too hard for thee: Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, [is] his name, El Gibbor means Mighty God or Warrior God.  Many scriptures refer to His mighty hand as the display of His tremendous power. In war times, God helped Israelites overcome their enemies and was victorious at all fronts. He is a champion in all storms which may arise.  He was victorious over Pharoah while rescuing the Israelites from Egypt, He fought David's battles, He also sent His Son who overcame the war of sin and death and bring us salvation. Jesus too is also called by this name in the book of Isaiah because of what He accomplished on our behalf in His death, burial and resurrection. Simply put He is mighty to save. In ou...

El Qanna

Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; Qanna means Jealous or zealous. El Qanna means Jealous God.  First mentioned at the giving of the ten commandments where God desired devotion to worship Him alone. Failure to have one divine being to worship leads to spiritual idolatry and spiritual fornication which displease God. Some believers commit adultery even without knowing. There are some rituals which they observe knowingly or unknowingly which show that God is not the only one they worship but even other gods too they pay homage to them.  You have heard those who stop the rain, pour drinks to the ground to honour ancestors, pour blood of animals in a foundation of a new house during construction, twin rituals, umbilical chord rituals for a new child, many funeral rituals during and after bur...

Adonai

Genesis 4:9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where [is] Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: [Am] I my brother's keeper? Adonai simply means Lord or master. When one is Lord over you, it means they have some kind of authority over you. It's first usage was in Genesis 4 when God spoke to Cain after He had killed his brother Abel. God is Lord over all that He created. Some preachers have coined words in those lines to refer to Jesus by saying that  "if Jesus is not Lord over your life, then He is not Lord at all." He is either Lord or Lord, nothing less and nothing more.  We have many who call themselves or called lords on earth, such as landlords, in school especially primary, we used to refer to our teachers as "master"; you have also heard of kung fu masters if you are a film fan, in courts of law the judge is referred to as "my lord", in former British colonies the mayor of the capital city  is called Lord Mayor, some lower leaders are called L...

Abba

Mark 14:36 And He said, "Abba, Father, all things [are] possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You [will.]" Abba is an Aramaic word which means Daddy. The first mention of the word Abba was by Jesus in the garden of Gethsamane when He prayed to God for comfort because he was about to be arrested and crucified.  I love it when my children call me daddy. It signifies the affection and intimate relationship they have between me and them. I may be having various titles I hold in society in varied places I may be involved in but to them they don't address me as such. I am that close person they run to when in fear or in need.  Calling your heavenly Father ABBA or daddy likens us to children and their earthly fathers. You are expressing a deep affection and closeness you have with Him which you cannot get elsewhere.  Our earthly fathers can never be as perfect as our heavenly Father. It also doesn't matter whether you had a bro...

El Olam

Genesis 21:33 Then [Abraham] planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there called on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God. El Olam means God is everlasting or Eternal God. This revelation was made by Abraham after planting a tamarisk tree in Beersheba. He called God eternal or everlasting.  Everlasting or eternal simply means never ending. God cannot be given a specific number of years to Him. He is not....years old like human beings. Human time is linear, God's time is not for He is in the past, present and in the future all at once.  How do you feel when you know God is eternal? You will always feel a certain sense of Trust in His unchangeable character.

El Elyon

Genesis 14:18-22 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he [was] the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed [be] Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, El Elyon means God The Most High. The first mention of this title for God was in Genesis 14 when Abram had rescued his nephew Lot in the battle of the Kings by Melchizedek. He offered tithes to Melchizedek, who was the priest of the most High God. There are many gods in this world and idols that men have put up for themselves but God is the Most High of them all. Men have reached a point of idolising their families, wealth, or great a...

El Shaddai

Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. El Shaddai means the Almighty God. Almighty simply means He is all powerful.  This revelation was made in Genesis 17:1 by God Himself to Abram. There's no power above God. He is over all and above all. God displayed His power by miracles He performed in Egypt while rescuing the Israelites from the hands of Pharoah. He is still displaying his power by miracles, signs and wonders. El Shaddai can also mean the all sufficient God derived from a Hebrew word Shad meaning breast or chest. Some refer to Him as the many breasted God. Like a mother's milk which contains all the nutrients to nourish her suckling baby, God is all sufficient in meeting our needs. Kenneth Hagin once preached a message called El Shaddai, the God of more than enough. He is more than enough when it comes to meeting our needs. He will provide exce...

Jehovah Sabaoth

1 Samuel 1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. Jehovah Sabaoth means the LORD of hosts. This was revealed by Hannah as she was praying to the LORD for a child.  Hosts refer to either an army, angels or stars in the Bible. God is LORD over all those. Armies in this world symbolise the strength of a nation and protection. All the three references for host show greatness and might. Armies are believed to be the strongest and most powerful institution of any state. If there are forces within the army more mightier than the army, then people can nolonger rely on the army for its weak. Angels are also powerful beings and very gigantic. This is well illustrated in the book of Revelation. Stars too are very great in ...
